Addictions Counselling

Psychology Today defines addiction as "a condition in which a person engages in the use of a substance or in a behaviour for which the rewarding effects provide a compelling incentive to repeatedly pursue the behaviour despite detrimental consequences." Additionally, the American Psychiatric Association distinguishes between substance use disorders and addiction (severe substance use disorder). If you or someone you love is using substances, there is hope. There are many treatments available, it is not one size fits all so if you have tried something and it didn't work, even though it is hard, please try again. You are worth it!

Relevant Experience

I have worked with people who suffer from addiction, particularly substance use, and their family members for over 5 years. I am comfortable working in both abstinence-based and harm reduction modalities. I have been doing substance use assessments and return to work recommendations since 2016 and have been assisting clients with treatment center applications and post-treatment follow-up for 5 years. This includes relapse prevention planning.
