Gina Hawker (Carnegie)
Hi! My name is Gina Carnegie. I am a cis-gendered, neurodivergent, queer woman who has lived and worked in the Kamloops area since 2009. I love to spend time with my child and other important humans in my life. Nature brings me peace; reading brings me escape and keeps my mind learning. I also enjoy video games, crafting, dancing, and music.

I have been working as a Registered Clinical Counsellor since 2014. Prior to that, I was a youth support worker from 2010 to 2013. I offer counselling for individuals ages 16 and up seeking support to better understand themselves, increase nervous system regulation skills, and live in ways that align with their values. Much of my career has been spent working in Indigenous communities and I have had the honour of learning some of the teachings of Secwepemc Elders along the way.
I look forward to connecting with you.
My Philosophy
I believe that each person is the expert in their own life. I also believe that your body knows what you need. This means that I am curious about the story you tell me with your words as well as the story your body has to tell. Through telling your story and listening to your body I believe that we can work together to make positive, meaningful changes in your life.
I believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and I value the courage it takes to reach out and talk to someone about the hard parts of your story. I am honored to be part of your journey.

My Philosophy
Healing is a revolutionary act and a majestic reclamation of your power. In a world that wasn't built for your brain, your body, or your love, existing as your authentic self takes immense courage. As a neuroqueer Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), I hold space for the messy, heartbreaking, and beautiful work of growth and healing.

In this space, we leave judgment at the door. We replace the "shoulds" with wonder and the shame with deep, radical curiosity. Through my lived experience as a queer and gender-non-conforming human, I understand the weight of intersectional oppression and the defiant beauty of queer joy. My practice is a trauma-informed, inclusive space where the mask is optional and your humanity is celebrated.

Come get curious with me! I am here to help you navigate:
• Gender and sexuality
• Non-monogamous relationships and non-traditional dynamics (polyamory, open relationships, swinging, kink, sex work, etc.)
• Neurodiversity (especially Autism, ADHD, BPD, OCD)
• Neurodivergent-affirming relationship and communication skills
• Traumatic brain injuries and concussions
• Religious trauma and chronic pain/health
• Consent and boundaries
• Women's issues (I use a trans-affirming and inclusive feminist framework to allow all women to be heard and understood within larger social constructs and power dynamics)
• 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, partners, groups, and families

Because your story is as unique as you are, our work is collaborative and integrative. I meet you where you’re at and guide you as a fellow traveller on this journey, powered by knowledge and led by intuition. I utilize an experiential approach, which means the methods we use help us do the work and heal, not just talk about how we want to do it. I’m here to support you, challenge you, and help empower you!
I draw from various modalities including, but not limited to, Somatic, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused, and Client-Centred approaches, tailored to help ground and empower you into your core strength.
When I’m not in session, I’m a parent, an adventurer, and a creative spirit. I honour my wandering spirit by walking and exploring, staying curious about the world and finding serenity near the water. Whether I’m laughing with my chosen family or lost in acrylic painting, costume design, and nature, I bring my whole, authentic self to this life. I invite you to do the same.
I recognize my privilege as a white settler descendant. I live and work with gratitude on the unceded traditional lands of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc. Allyship, decolonization, and anti-racism are active, daily commitments in my practice. Kukwstsemc.
Accessibility & Capacity Note: To practice the neurodivergent-affirming care I value and to accommodate ongoing concussive symptoms, I am currently conducting sessions via phone only. Video sessions are on hold until my brain capacity allows for that sensory input. I appreciate your grace as I navigate this lived experience of adaptation.
